Hanging lights for a dining table should sit about 700mm to 800mm above the tabletop, centred along its length. Pendants on a magnetic track or a single linear light make that easy to line up. Both are on display at our Periyamedu showroom.

Good to know before you buy
-
Fix the table position first
Hanging lights look right only when they're centred over the table. Decide where the table goes before the ceiling point is made. A magnetic track gives you room to adjust later.
-
Mind the sightlines
Pendants should not block the view across the table. Slim pendants or a linear light keep conversation easy.
-
Add a dimmer
A dimmer turns the same lights from homework mode to dinner mode. It's the simplest upgrade in a dining room.
-
Balance with the rest of the room
The table light should be the brightest point, with softer light around it. A few spots or wall lights stop the corners from feeling dark.
Common mistakes to avoid
Hanging pendants too highAbove about 900mm, pendants stop lighting the table and start lighting the room. Keep them 700mm to 800mm above the top.
Lights off-centre to the tableA ceiling point fixed before the table position is decided often ends up off-centre. A magnetic track solves this.
Bare bulbs at eye levelPendants with exposed LEDs at seated eye level glare. Choose shaded or diffused heads.
Only one light in the roomThe table light alone leaves the corners dark. Add soft wall or spot light around it.
