Questions people ask
A chandelier and a ceiling fan in one fitting, with the blades tucked under or around the light.
It depends on the motor and sweep, not the look. Check the air delivery figure on the box.

BLDC fans use far less power and usually come with a remote.
A 1,200mm sweep suits most rooms of that size.
In a bedroom, yes. In a living room, add other lights too, so the room isn't lit from one point.
Not necessarily. Noise depends on the motor and balance, not the design. Ask to hear the fan running.
Yes, with a hugger or short-rod model that sits close to the ceiling.
Usually one extra wire, so the light and fan can be switched separately. Plan it before the ceiling is finished.
Matt finishes hide dust better than gloss. Wooden and brass finishes need only a dry cloth.
Good to know before you buy
Check the ceiling height
Fans should sit about 2.4m to 2.7m above the floor. On high ceilings, use a longer downrod. On low ceilings, choose a hugger fan that sits close to the ceiling.
Look at air delivery, not just looks
Every fan lists its air delivery in cubic metres per minute. A designer fan should still move enough air for the room size.
Match the finish with your lights
Brass, black, white and wood finishes pair with matching spotlights and tracks. Choosing both together keeps the ceiling consistent.
Plan the switch and remote
Fans with lights often come with a remote. Decide where the wall switch goes and whether you want the fan and light on separate controls.
Common mistakes to avoid
A beautiful fan that barely moves air will be replaced within a summer. Check the air delivery and sweep before the finish.
Too small and the corners stay hot. Too big and it feels like a wind tunnel. Match the sweep to the room size.
A light above a spinning fan creates a flicker of shadows. Place lights away from the blades, or choose a fan with its own light.
Too low is unsafe. Too high and you barely feel the air. Use the right downrod for your ceiling height.
Check how the fan is controlled before buying, and whether it works with your existing switchboard.
