Good kitchen lighting puts bright, shadow-free light on the counter with under-cabinet profiles, then fills the room with neutral 4000K downlights. Use IP44 strips near the sink and hob. Profiles, strips and downlights are all at our Periyamedu showroom.

What goes where in a kitchen?

  • Under cabinets

    Profile with IP44 strip

Fix it near the front edge

  • Ceiling

    4000K downlights

Space them over the counter, not the middle of the room

  • Island

    Linear light or pendants

700mm to 800mm above the top

  • Inside cabinets

    Slim surface profile

    Lights the shelves

Why 4000K in the kitchen?

Neutral light shows food colours accurately and keeps the space feeling clean. Warm light suits the dining side. Try each colour on this counter.

Questions people ask

Under-cabinet profiles for the counter, plus 4000K downlights for general light.

An IP44 strip inside an aluminium profile with a diffuser.

It depends on the layout. Bring your plan and we'll work it out.

The ceiling light is behind you, so your body casts a shadow. Under-cabinet lights fix it.

Keep them away from direct heat and use IP44 strips in profiles near the sink and hob.

Neutral 4000K over the work areas. Warm 3000K suits an open kitchen's dining side.

Pendants or a linear light 700mm to 800mm above the top, or spots on a magnetic track.

Yes. Surface profiles fix under the cabinets, with the driver placed inside one of them.

Good to know before you buy

  • Plan the lights with the cabinets

Under-cabinet profiles need a cable point and space for a driver. Share the kitchen drawing with us before the carpenter starts, so the channels and access are built in.

  • Fix lights near the front edge

A profile near the front of the upper cabinets lights the whole counter. Fixed at the back, it lights only the wall.

  • Use neutral white

4000K shows food colours accurately and keeps the kitchen feeling fresh. Warm light suits a dining area next to it.

  • Light the inside of cabinets

A slim profile inside tall units or glass cabinets helps find things and adds a soft glow in the evening.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Only a central ceiling light

You stand with your back to it, so the counter is always in shadow. Add under-cabinet light.

  • Strips without a profile

Grease and steam settle on bare strips. A profile with a diffuser is easier to wipe clean.

  • Warm light over the counter

2700K makes it harder to judge food colour. Use 4000K where you prepare food.

  • No plan for the driver

Under-cabinet drivers need a reachable spot inside a cabinet, planned before the carpentry is finished.
