Questions people ask
A compact up-down light every few metres. It washes the wall without lighting up the street.
Die-cast aluminium bodies don't rust like iron. Check the IP rating too, so water stays out.
Warm 3000K looks richer on walls and plants, and is easier on neighbours.
Yes, with a timer or smart switch on the circuit. Lighting controls and automation →
On a compound wall, about 2m to 3m apart, so the pools of light just meet.
IP65 handles rain and jets of water. IP67 survives being under water for a short time, which matters for lights in the ground.
2W to 5W is usually enough for compound walls and entrances. MASCON's compact wall lights are 2W.
Up-down for pillars and tall walls, one-way for low walls and entrances.
Die-cast aluminium with a good finish handles humid, salty air better than painted steel.

Good to know before you buy
Plan the wiring before plastering
Outdoor lights need cable points on the wall at the right height. Mark them before the final plaster and paint, so the cables don't run on the surface.
Choose the finish with the paint
Concrete grey blends into stone and grey walls. Black stands out on light walls. Copper and brass tones suit wood cladding.
Use warm light outside
Warm 3000K is kinder to neighbours, makes plants look natural and gives the house a welcoming glow. Almost every MASCON outdoor light is 3000K for this reason.
Seal every joint
Most outdoor failures start at the cable joint, not the light. Use waterproof connectors rated IP68 for every outdoor joint.
Common mistakes to avoid
An IP20 light under a sit-out still faces humidity and wind-driven rain. Use IP44 under cover and IP65 in the open.
Lights that throw beams outward glare at passers-by and neighbours. Up-down and downward lights keep the light on your walls.
Outdoors, a little light goes a long way after dark. 2W to 5W wall lights are usually enough on a compound wall.
One style along a wall looks planned. Three different fittings look like they were bought one at a time.
