Good to know before you buy
-
Plan the lights with the cabinets
Under-cabinet profiles need a cable point and space for a driver. Share the kitchen drawing with us before the carpenter starts, so the channels and access are built in.
-
Fix lights near the front edge
A profile near the front of the upper cabinets lights the whole counter. Fixed at the back, it lights only the wall.
-
Use neutral white
4000K shows food colours accurately and keeps the kitchen feeling fresh. Warm light suits a dining area next to it.
-
Light the inside of cabinets
A slim profile inside tall units or glass cabinets helps find things and adds a soft glow in the evening.
Common mistakes to avoid
Only a central ceiling lightYou stand with your back to it, so the counter is always in shadow. Add under-cabinet light.
Strips without a profileGrease and steam settle on bare strips. A profile with a diffuser is easier to wipe clean.
Warm light over the counter2700K makes it harder to judge food colour. Use 4000K where you prepare food.
No plan for the driverUnder-cabinet drivers need a reachable spot inside a cabinet, planned before the carpentry is finished.
